Blue Palm

Blue Palm

The Blue Palm actually comes in two different slate color forms: Blue Palm, which is heterozygous for the dominant slate mutation, and a Self-Blue (aka Lavender), which is homozygous for dominant slate. Due to the nature of the slate gene, when breeding blue palms together, three color types will be produced: Blue Palm, Self-Blue (Lavender) Palm, and Royal Palm.

One way to get 100% blue palm types would be to breed Self-Blue Palm to Blue Palm, then only Blue Palms will result in both color variations, with no Royal Palms being produced.

Self-Blue (Lavender) Palms will breed true when bred to the same. These are a bit paler blue than the single slate gene type.

Genotype for Blue Palm: b'b' cgcg Dd nn (toms) or n- (hens). Genotype for Self-Blue (Lavender) Palm: b'b' cgcg DD nn (toms) or n- (hens).

Black-winged bronze-based with gray slate and Narragansett.

Approx. weights: Old toms 22 lbs and old hens 12 lbs.
